My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What were the main relationships explored in this book? This was a tricky element in this story. I liked this book a lot but because there are so many characters and each character then comes with multiple layers, relationships between other people aren’t as important as the ones each character has with herself or himself. For this reader, the ultimate question of this book is how you look in the mirror when the worst parts of yourself are exposed.

What I liked about the book … The author’s manner of breaking down human emotions. Literally. I would have liked it more without the multiple exclamation marks but still the consistent way he breaks each character to expose them and to show their most vulnerable side, absolutely mind-blowing. I really hope the author releases book two soon. This reader cannot wait.

Favourite character(s) … I liked the Jacob-Charles-Barbra triangle plus Ivan because it was weird enough to be possible in some ways and superbly crafted by the author. The doubts and competition are like any other family. What makes these relationships interesting is the value / devaluation of human life. Talk about having a dysfunctional family.
