The Howling Heart by April Bostic
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I was skeptical when we started discussing this book in my district. I had read A Rose to the Fallen by the same author and it wasn't the best book in the world. In The Howling Heart, we meet Paige and Riley. The sequence of events are easy to follow and I liked that I could easily connect with all characters. Essentially, this book was a much better attempt than Rose to the Fallen.
If you are the kind of reader who likes a good amount of romance in their paranormal read, April Bostic will be a hit with you. The plot isn't forced and the characters fit into their respective places with ease. The only thing that made me rethink 5 stars for the book was the fact that some of the characters are introduced with the mildest of descriptions. Simply put, you can't close your eyes and imagine what he or she is like.
Had the settings been stronger I would have loved this book. Right now, it's between like and liked it very much. Nevertheless, The Howling Heart was a good attempt and I look forward to reading more of her work.
